NORRISTOWN — Montgomery County gained another 387 COVID-19 cases and five deaths over the past few days.

Of those, 16 cases were reported out of long term care facilities, and one came from the Montgomery County Correctional Facility from Oct. 9 to Oct. 11, according to the county’s online dashboard.

There have been 68,640 cases and 1,374 deaths recorded locally since the first cases of coronavirus were detected on March 7, 2020, according to the county’s online COVID-19 database.

Additionally, there are 123 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Montgomery County medical facilities, 12 of whom are on ventilators, according to county statistics.

Montgomery County has an incidence rate over the “most recent seven days” of 128.4 cases per 100,000 residents, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s COVID-19 Early Warning Monitoring System Dashboard.

The county reported a positivity rate of 5.4 percent over the most recent seven days, according to state health department figures.

“The delta variant continues to drive up our key COVID-19 indicators,” Montgomery County Commissioners Chairwoman Dr. Val Arkoosh said at last week’s commissioners meeting. “However, I want to be very clear that the vast majority of the new cases are occurring in unvaccinated individuals.”

Arkoosh noted that 82.98 percent of eligible Montgomery County residents 12 years of age and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I urge those who haven’t done so yet to get vaccinated and help us continue building momentum against COVID-19 in our communities,” Arkoosh said.

The two-shot Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, and the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine are available at the county-run clinics in King of Prussia, Norristown, Pottstown, and Willow Grove. Visit montcopa.org/covid-19vaccine for a full schedule.

COVID-19 testing is available for free at the following locations:

  • Ardmore: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 2-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 114 W. Lancaster Ave.
  • Norristown: 2-5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1401 DeKalb St.
  • Pottstown: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 2-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 364 King St.
  • Willow Grove: 2-5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2522 W. Moreland Road

Arkoosh said last week that another testing location in Green Lane is slated to open this week.

People living, working and going to school in Montgomery County are eligible to get a free COVID-19 test. Those interested can make an appointment online beginning at 7 a.m. each day, or by calling 610- 970-2937 starting at 8:30 a.m. each day.

Addressing the ongoing hardships of the pandemic, the commissioners unanimously authorized a roughly $2.5 million cash infusion to the MontcoStrong 2021 Non-Profit Resiliency Grant Program.

“With that additional funding, that will allow the funding of 226 grants, which have been applied for,” said Solicitor Josh Stein during the Oct. 7 session. “Without that additional funding, only 131 grants of those reviewed and approved by the review committee would be funded.”

The $2,558,300 was transferred from the county’s Redevelopment Authority, according to the resolution, which Stein said was supplied by way of federal dollars allocated as part of the “recovery act.”
